 Working on crawling

 Go Cardinals!

Danika went to her first Developmental Specialist appointment last Friday. They said that she looked good! :) They told me that I have to get rid of the bouncer because it's not helping her at all. If anything, it's not developing her muscles correctly. Danika stands on her tip toes now when she stands. So we have to help her stop doing that. The bouncer also teaches her to stiffen her legs and stand when right now she needs to be bending her legs. The bouncer also allows her to throw herself backwards which is bad for her shoulders and crawling. We have exercises to work on to help her round her shoulders forward so that she can crawl. When she's on the floor having "tummy time", we have to help her keep her arms out in front of her instead of letting her fall flat with her arms out. The more we help her round her shoulders forward, the better she will do at crawling.

They felt her muscles and she was weak in her shoulders and ankles. Her head looked really good, so she won't need any helmets to help shape her head! :) We work with Danika everyday! She's going to start crawling in no time!

I also got yelled at for letting her put her arm behind me when I'm feeding or holding her. Even though that's how Danika likes to be held, it's bad for her shoulders. The arm that she keeps down behind my back is being thrown backwards and I'm suppose to be helping her round her shoulders forward.

Danika has very good motor functions. She can grab a toy with one hand and bring it to her mouth and transfer the toy to the other hand. We need to work on her fine motor skills. If I have something really small in my hand (a cheerio) she doesn't really see it or pay attention to it. So we need to work on her seeing the small things.

Danika is very voicestrous and lets her opinion known! She was screaming at the Nurse Practitioner every time she tried to work with her. The Nurse Practitioner said that Danika is very attached to me. She didn't say that was bad, but that it doesn't usually happen until they are 9 months old. That's what happens when Danika hangs out with mom all day every day! :)
