Happy Birthday

This is one of my favorite videos that I've taken of her! It's the first time I actually made her smile! :)

We went to the pulmonologist last week and Danika doesn't weigh what they wanted her to weigh. Every time we go to the pulmonologist, they have weight goals set for her. Her goal was to weigh at least 10lbs 3 oz and she weighed 9 lbs 12 oz. So now I'm back to putting her oxygen back on during the day while she sleeps and of course leaving her oxygen on all night. The pulmonologist thinks that she's working to hard trying to breath on her own, and that makes her burn calories. We have a followup appointment in a month to see how she's doing.

Yesterday was a great day! It was Danika's dedication to the Lord! We had so many family and friends there to share in our celebration! After her dedication, friends and family came to Red Robin to continue the celebration! We are extremely grateful for all of your prayers and support whether it's watching her for a few hours for us or just being there to talk to!!! We feel the love from you all everyday. We love you guys! :)

3/13/12
It's time for our baby girl to come home!!!! :) We packed up all her stuff and the nurse gave her an RSV shot. She is being discharge weighing 5lbs 11 oz. It was actually kinda sad to have to say by to all her nurses, therapists and doctors that have helped Danika get to where she is during the last 3 months.

We took pictures with all our favorite primary nurses! I gave thank you cards to each of them to make sure they knew how awesome and appreciated they were!

She is coming home on an apnea monitor and oxygen. Now we start a whole new adventure!!! :)

3/8/12
Today I walked in to Danika's oxygen being at .1% at 100% flow. So obviously they gave up on trying to wean her off the oxygen. Their going to send her home on oxygen. I talked to the doctor and nurse practitioner and they said they will give her one more chance to get of the oxygen. On Sunday (3 days) they will shut off her oxygen and see how she does. If she fails, they she will go home on oxygen during the beginning of next week. She is suppose to get her hearing test tomorrow.

She is no longer on a feeding schedule. Now they are only feeding her when she gives cues that she is hungry.

Today was the first time Aunt Kelly got to hold her niece!

3/6/12
Little miss Danika got her feeding tube pulled out today! For once, she wasn't the one that pulled it out! Their going to leave it out for 24 hours and see how much she bottle feeds. She needs to bottle feed at least 165 cc's within a 12 hour period. Within the 12 hours today, she drank 180 cc's. So, the feeding tube is probably going to stay out! :)

The nurse suggested feeding Danika rice milk to help control her reflux. The medical team said that they would think about it. If the refluxing stopped, she would be able to breath better and then maybe get off the oxygen. Keeping my fingers crossed!

3/5/12
Danika was back on the oxygen that night (3/2/12). The nurse said that late last night she started desatting and she couldn't pick her sats up so they put her back on .2% oxygen. She just got way to tired doing all the breathing on her own w/o any help. I thought there might be a good chance that I might walk in to her prongs being back in her nose. All in God's time....I have to trust that she's getting closer and closer to getting off that oxygen.

She hit the 5lb mark! She weighs 5 lbs 2 oz today! :) They measured her last night and she is 18 inches long. Danika is almost nippling all of her feeds. A couple times, she nippled the entire 45 cc's. The nurse said she was very impressed with her. :)

No more oxygen! Only a feeding tube!!!!

I got here at 2:00 today and Danika was doing great with her oxygen. Her nurse gave her a deep suctioning this morning and she got a lot of gunk out. Ever since then, she's been doing awesome with her oxygen satting high. So her nurse talked to Jackie the respiratory therapist about doing the "respiratory test" on her. They take her off the oxygen for 1 hour. If she drops down to the 60's, she has to pick herself back up within 15 seconds. If she drops down below 88 she has 5 minutes to pick herself up above 88.

She passed the test!!!!!

Her respiratory therapist is taking the nasal cannula for her oxygen off!!! Me, Danny, & Jess stayed in her room on the couch and stayed quiet trying not to bother her so that she would have the best chance possible of doing good on her respiratory test! They hung her prongs on the wall because she will probably still need the oxygen when she eats.

We gave her kisses before we left, but we didn't hold her because we wanted her to get use to not having the oxygen and we didn't want to make it harder on her. We also postponed bath time. We will do it tomorrow! :) She weighs 4lbs 13 oz. The physician assistant listened to her heart and she couldn't hear the murmur.

2/27/12
Today my love is doing awesome! She finally let them wean her down from .9% to .2% oxygen! There is still a chance that she will have to go home on oxygen, but now the chance is much lower!

I had an appointment with lactation today because breastfeeding her is extremely frustrating. It's hard to get her to latch on, so I've been giving up and just letting her bottle feed. Today was the first time she actually did really good latching on. Of course when lactation is standing there watching the whole thing, she finally cooperates! lol

She now weighs 4lbs 8 oz. Today was her last epogen shot. They are going to check her red blood cell count tomorrow and then we will figure out what we are going to do next depending on what her hemoglobin count is. The hemoglobin count will tell us if the epogen shots have been working and if she is able to make her red blood cells on her own or if she will need another blood transfusion.

Grandma Gurule came over with a valentine that Jazelle made her for Valentines Day! :)

Mommy and daddy love you Danika!
